We need your help! Help save Community Media Nationwide! The FCC is considering rule changes that would severely impact funding for Community Television. The order could potentially defund Public, Education and Government Access Centers. Let your voice be heard! Deadline to file reply comments is December 14! The Federal Communications Commission is planning to give cable companies a big gift this holiday season: a pass at paying for the use of our streets to run their wires into our homes. The fees that cable companies pay to Cities and Towns nationwide are used to support media centers and also fund local government services and fiber connections between schools and towns. If those payments go away, so will thousands of youth media programs, media production trainings, special digital literacy classes, media services for nonprofit, city committee meeting coverage, coverage of local issues and events, community forums and non-partisan election debates, live and archived transparent city meetings, school committee and alderman meetings, community-accessible and emerging media equipment, studios and resources, and the production of thousands of hours of unique local programming. HOW TO SUBMIT? 1. Write a Letter or Support: Describe how you use PEG access and how important it is to you. (access to media tools, hyperlocal programming, government transparency, access to training programs, media services for community nonprofits, city committees and agencies, and youth job training programs, to name a few options to champion in your letter!) End with a closing request of their continued support of community media, and sign your letter. 2. Now you need to upload it to the FCC website: go to https://www.fcc.gov/ecfs/filings - In "Proceedings" enter "05-311" - In "Name of Filer" enter your name or your organization's name - In "Type of Filing" select "Reply Comments" - In "Address" enter your Address - Enter your City State and Zip Code - Attach your letter - Check "Email Confirmation" - Enter "Continue to Review Screen" - Enter "Submit" You should receive an email confirmation.
